Pike River Prospecting has two types of mining.
The first variety requires you to purchase a bag of gem rough; that you wash out in sifters in our sluiceway. You get to keep what you find. There are a few different varieties of bags to choose from. These gem bags also make excellent gifts, or if you want to take them with you to wash out at your own leisure. The time for this feature process takes ten to fifteen minutes.
The second variety is claim mines that have gem rough seeded into large sandboxes that you sift with dry sifters to find the beautiful treasure. This is a lot of family fun and you may figure about an hour to go through the mining process. Be prepared to dig in the sand (It’s okay to go in.)
This feature is probably best to make a reservation or call ahead for availability.
The weather may be a factor because rain makes sifting very hard.
You are only allowed to sift in the claim that you paid for.
